'The Avengers' new movie poster

Is it just me, or does anybody else hate it when masked superheroes spend huge chunks of the movie (and appear on movie posters like the new poster for The Avengers above) without their masks?

I know why they do it – what studio executive wants to pay big bucks to hire movie stars who keep their faces covered up all the time? – but whenever I see a superhero running around in public in costume but with his mask off it takes me out of the movie just a little bit.

C’mon, don’t you studio guys think fans know by now that Robert Downey Jr. plays Iron Man? And after seeing Chris Evans run around with his face hanging out during most of Captain America: The First Avenger, do we need to see him maskless again on the new poster, which Marvel released today?

And what about the cute metal helmet with wings that Thor wore in the comic books? Did the movie Thor leave it behind in Asgard or was someone concerned that it might muss up Chris Hemsworth’s golden locks?

The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon and also starring Scarlet Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo, opens May 4.
