The Dark Knight Rises retained the top spot in the domestic box office, earning an estimated $36.4 million on its third weekend. The final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy has now earned a total of $354.6 million domestically, which is $39 million less than The Dark Knight earned at this point in its run.
Total Recall came in second with $26 million. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days earned $14.7 million for third place. Previous movies in the Wimpy Kid series did much better, earning $22.1 million and $23.8 million, respectively.
